Wind energy plays a decisive role in the transformation to a sustainable energy supply. As a reliable partner in the field of wind energy project development, Prokon has been supporting wind energy projects since 1995 - from the initial concept to final commissioning.
With around 30 years of experience in project development for wind turbines, Prokon has comprehensive expertise in the planning and implementation of wind farms. Within our projects, we work cooperatively and transparently with landowners, communities, residents and authorities - in this way, we have already successfully implemented 74 wind farms in Germany, Poland and Finland. Numerous other projects are currently in planning and aim to accelerate the transition to 100% sustainable energy supply.
Individual concepts for regional projects
With regard to wind turbines, no location is the same as another. That’s why we develop an individual concept for each wind farm, which addresses possible geographical challenges and thus best accommodates the local conditions.
A partner – from start to finish
From the initial project idea, through official approval and financing, to long-term operational management – Prokon is your reliable partner in all phases of project development for wind turbines and plant operation.
Fair investments
We rely on fair and transparent models that ensure all parties involved, from landowners and local communities to the members of the Prokon Cooperative, appropriately participate in the success of our projects.
Whether it be site selection, coordination with municipal decision-makers, preparation of technical reports, engineering, procurement, or construction execution - our expertise in project development for wind turbines is diverse.

We would like to lease your land to carry out sustainable energy projects. With us, you can be sure that your land will be put to valuable use while you benefit from stable lease income.
Prokon is your ideal partner when you want to sell a project - no matter if it is just being planned or already realised. We take over and develop your project further to maximise its full potential.
We offer you the opportunity to remain involved through a new partnership in a jointly operated company. Actively shape the future of renewable energies with us!
A wind turbine harnesses the power of the wind to turn the rotor blades. This motion drives a generator, which produces electricity. The turbines can be installed both on land (onshore) and at sea (offshore).
Yes, wind turbines are considered one of the most environmentally friendly methods of electricity generation, as they emit no harmful emissions and utilise wind as a renewable energy source. You can learn more about the carbon footprint of wind turbines under: Are wind turbines harmful to the climate?
Modern wind turbines are very efficient and can generate energy up to 50% of the time in areas with strong wind. The efficiency of a turbine depends on many factors, including wind speed, turbine design, and location.
Challenges in the installation of wind energy plants include the need for extensive site analyses, ensuring grid integration, permitting processes, and sometimes public opposition. Moreover, the initial investment costs and maintenance of the plants are significant, but the operating costs are compensated over time by the energy generated.
The lifespan of a wind turbine is typically 20 to 25 years. After this time, the turbines can either be repowered, which means that old parts are replaced with modern, more efficient components, or they are fully dismantled and recycled.
Wind turbines only generate electricity when the wind blows. To ensure a reliable supply even during calm periods, wind energy is often combined with other energy sources, including solar, gas, and hydropower. Additionally, advanced storage systems are increasingly being used to store excess energy and release it during unfavourable weather conditions.

Rusiec Windpark in Poland
The Windpark Rusiec II in the Lodz region, Central Poland, has been in operation since the second half of 2024. With eight new wind turbines, each producing 2.2 MW, it expands the existing Windpark Rusiec I and provides clean energy to approximately 6,700 households. Thanks to recent legislative changes in Poland and favourable economic conditions, this project was successfully completed, marking an important step forward in the expansion of renewable energies in the country.
Hedet Windpark in Finland
The Hedet Windpark is located in Övermark, Finland, and consists of 18 wind turbines that deliver 81 megawatts of clean energy. These supply the engineering firm Tuike Finland, a subsidiary of Google, under a long-term power purchase agreement. The construction of the wind farm was successfully completed by Prokon in collaboration with Neoen, a leading producer of renewable energies from France. Prokon holds a 19.9% stake in the Hedet wind farm.
Oldendorf Windpark in Germany
The Oldendorf Wind Park is a special project in Prokon's long history. Located just two kilometers from the company's headquarters in Itzehoe, the two wind turbines are not only a symbol of sustainable energy generation but also of Prokon's close connection to the local community. The two turbines with an installed capacity of 8.4 MW, providing power to approximately 345 households, have been accompanied by media coverage throughout the entire construction phase and stand as a visible sign of the company's values and goals. Prokon holds a 19.9% stake in the Oldendorf Wind Park.

Since its founding in 1995, Itzehoe has been the corporate headquarters at the core of Prokon. In the early years, all projects were managed from here before further offices were opened in Mainz and Potsdam. The strategic focus and project development leadership still firmly reside with our team in Itzehoe. In addition to projects in the wind energy sector, the northern German projects for storage systems and nationwide biomethane projects are also managed from here. Itzehoe is also home to our specialists in construction management and electrical engineering. With a dedicated team of currently 24 employees, Itzehoe remains a central hub in our efforts to drive forward the energy transition.

In order to shorten the travel routes from the main location in Itzehoe to the eastern federal states, the Potsdam office was established in autumn 2009 for the acquisition of land for wind power projects. 15 years and numerous wind farms later, the team in the Eastern region has grown to 28 employees who are mainly responsible for the development of wind farms and solar PV ground-mounted systems.
